Shanquella Robinson

Shanquella Robinson inexplicably died while in Mexico. Some individuals are comparing the situation to what happened to Kenneka Jenkins in 2017.
A family from Charlotte, North Carolina is seeking answers surrounding the tragic death of their daughter, Shanquella Robinson.

In a report from local television station WBTV, Bernard and Salamondra Robinson last saw their daughter on October 28, the day she and some of her friends traveled to Cabo, Mexico for a vacation. Fast forward to over a month later, and the parents still have no notion of what truly led to their 25-year-old daughters death.

As the Robinson’s recounted with WBTV, they were notified by Shanquella’s pals that she died from alcohol intoxication after they got in touch with the parents that following Saturday after they landed in Cabo.

“On Saturday evening, they called and said she wasn’t feeling well, and they were going to call a doctor,” Salamondra added. “And when they called, the doctor hadn’t arrived yet, but they said she had alcohol poisoning.”

However, when receiving an autopsy report after making calls to the FBI and Mexican authorities, they found that what led to her death contrasted what her friend’s had informed them.

“After they said it was alcohol poisoning, we received the autopsy report on Thursday and it said that her neck had been fractured and she had a back spasm there was a break, spinal cord was crack,” the parents added. “That elevated it to a whole ‘nother level because that implied somebody had attacked her.”

Since Shanquella died in Mexico, national agencies became engaged with the issue. However, in a statement to another news outlet, Queen City News, the U.S. State Department in Mexico refuted the claim that Robinson murdered, adding that there was no clear evidence of foul play according to police.

Since then, Shanquella’s friends have returned to Charlotte. They left her body back in Cabo; the Robinsons recently received their daughter’s remains on Thursday. As word of Shanquella’s death has made its way to social media, so have theories surrounding the occurrence. Some individuals suspect that it was one of the pals who killed her, with a video being released that supposedly shows her getting beaten up by someone, while someone else captures the argument. According to a report from Rolling Stone, the video was first published by a North Carolina blog and that it “identified several friends they claimed were on the Cabo trip with Shanquella at the time of her death.” The report continues on, mentioning how the blog identified a man present in the group named Namer Wiggins. Although Wiggins did reveal he was a part of the Cabo vacation, he refuted the blog’s assertion that he was responsible for Shanquelle’s death, saying that he arrived in Cabo after the group called for medical treatment, according to an Instagram story that Wiggins uploaded Tuesday night.

Others users are connecting the incident to the strange death of Kenneka Jenkins, the 19-year-old who was found dead inside a closed freezer at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare hotel back in September 2017. Jenkins’ death was similarly enveloped in mystery. When early reports came out about the tragedy, Jenkins’ mother, Tereasa Martin, was told by authorities that her daughter had reportedly got herself into the freezer while intoxicated and died there (Jenkins was at the hotel for a party) (Jenkins was at the hotel for a party). But Martin was skeptical of this, as well as accounts Jenkins’ friends who were also present at the party gave, stating that their stories “changed over and over.”

This story will be updated as additional information is discovered.
